Jaliyah Introduces MyBessProjects: Stories That Matter

“Hi, I’m Jaliyah, and I’m the youngest author at MyBessProjects!”   We create books that help kids and grown-ups, talk about big feelings, real history, and standing up for what’s right together. Real stories. Brave voices. Made for families ready to grow.

Introduction to My Protest: A Children's Book

Take a moment to listen to the heartfelt introduction from a character in Jaliyah's first impactful picture book, "My Protest."

Additional Information

MyBessProjects is a unique literary collaboration spanning three generations of writers, with the youngest author leading the storytelling. We craft early readers' book series designed to spark meaningful conversations about the world around us. Through authentic narratives, we explore critical issues affecting young children, including diversity, empathy, and social awareness. Our young author, shaped by a multicultural background, brings a fresh and insightful perspective that resonates with young readers while offering parents and educators a rare glimpse into how children perceive real-world challenges.

The first book of the series is "My Protest." It was written when Jaliyah was four. She attended a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest with some family members. It is based on the real-life story of the child's experience at the Black Lives Matter protest during the height of the pandemic.

Our second book, My Protest: Please Don't Erase Our History!, is about learning the truth about Black History from an African-American child's point of view. The book also includes activities of influential figures and activists, and even excerpts from historical texts.

Our third book of the series, My Protest: If I Could Peek Into Heaven To See What My Daddy Is Doing, is a poetic and colorful children's picture book that paints a lovely image of where someone goes and what they do. A little girl whose father has died imagines herself peeking into heaven. This book is a perfect story for any little one who has experienced the loss of a parent or loved one to find comfort.
